Ten

Ten years ago today, the Artist and I went on our first date. It was a long hike through beautiful woods with a waterfall and a lost dog thrown in for good measure.

Years later, it seems like we're still on that first date, enjoying the scenery of a trail that takes us up and down and leads us left when we want to go right and sometimes doesn't make it clear which direction we're headed but we hold hands and plod along anyways.

There might be a hike today but it will be in our backyard and the dog with us will be our constant companion and fierce protector, Callie; it will be preceded by stacking firewood and likely followed up with work in the garden. Tis the season.

If you told me ten years ago, I'd be building a farm and raising a family with my true love, I likely would have laughed...and sighed.

Despite the fact that we've had  the heartache of losing both of our dads in the last ten years, we had each other to help us through, making it the best ten years I've ever had. 

Happy Anniversary Artist, here's to the next ten years and beyond; my hiking boots are ready.
