As random as they get

The soybean crop in the fields around the old farmhouse has turned brown; I'm expecting the harvest to happen real soon. This is only the second time, in the six autumn seasons that we've been privy to this place, that soybeans have been grown. I like the change, and I like how much more light reaches inside the house and around the property.

I planted calendula seeds, in hopes of drying some for soap making this winter. They did so well, I picked a bunch just to use as a fresh arrangement in the kitchen.

Our pond has been a showcase of purple and gold this fall, thanks to all the goldenrod and asters that have taken over the far side. They're the first thing I see as I make my way to the vegetable gardens behind them, and as they pop into view when I round the bend past the last standing willow tree, I'm always taken back to my city days when something like cable TV was a common occurrence and I could watched my favourite team, the Los Angeles Lakers in their similar coloured finery, win a world championship or two, or three. Those days are long gone.

Pearl. Being coy? No. Ignoring me? Yes. Items from inside a china cabinet were found strewn about the living room floor. The culprit? That would be the usual suspect, as identified in the black and white photo above. I'd ground her but she's still an indoor cat. Come to think of it, that's what probably got her into this mess in the first place.

The Devils Punchbowl, a local waterfall that, to my dismay, is dry in the summer. What the heck? I know, good thing I married a geology major. Even if the lack of water was a disappointment, the colours, the history, the sheer enormity of it when you're standing at the bottom along with the impromptu geology lesson more than made up for it. I'd like to go back when the tap is turned back on but the trail was dicey on a late summer day, I'm not sure my heart could take a wet trail, slippery with fallen leaves.
