Weekending

As a kid, I always thought I was lucky to have been born in the summer for it meant never having to go to school on my birthday. As I became older it meant celebrating my birthday outdoors and this year was no exception. From bicycle rides to water slides, from dining al fresco to outdoor siestas, I spent every moment I could out in the world.

I enjoyed not one but two special meals, one lovingly prepared by the Artist, while the second was my family's first attempt at re-creating my late German grandfather's specialty, pig tails. It may have been the directions he left me or the love he left in all of our hearts, but they were as delicious as I remembered, maybe more so.

I can't possibly think of a better way to celebrate getting older and, hopefully, a wee bit wiser than how I spent my time this past weekend.  Beautiful weather, enticing smells and wonderful scenery enjoyed with those I love.

Lucky indeed.
