This or That Thursday: eDition 40

Pearl, who just turned one, loves this time of year, when can she jump in and out of the empty kitchen wood bin on a moment's notice. She thinks she's hiding from everyone, and unless you're crouched down at her level, she's right; no one can see a black cat at the bottom of an old copper washtub.

The Artist made over 15 jars of strawberry jam last weekend but the jury is still out on whether it actually set properly. He's made many types of jams but there's something tricky about strawberries and pectin and getting them to behave properly together. Sort of like the Glimmer Twins.

Just as we turned the calendars to July, the day lilies around the old farmhouse and yards started to bloom. They add a certain touch of country with their simplicity, if not their overabundance, that no other flower around here can quite match.

Two of our chicks, whom are all thriving well and not one resembles a rooster...yet. This is one of our Ameracauna and a Cochin, on the right. I've  never had any desire to raise a Cochin, or any breed with feathers on their feet. It just didn't seem practical for our winters. But my, I can't get over how pretty this one is, and how docile of a temperament she has. She's a keeper this one.

Finally, after missing the boat the last couple of years, I managed to harvest our lavender before it fully bloomed. Research told me to hang it in a cool, dry place. Our summer thus far has been nothing but humidity and rain. Perhaps I could send it on Alaskan cruise until fall.
