I hope you were able to spend time with those you love over this long weekend; perhaps you were able to enjoy some warmer weather as we did. Saturday in these parts was beautiful! I was able to check on my surviving bee hive; it doesn't look well but I left the surviving bees some food and tucked them back into their home for a few more weeks, letting nature take its course. I did manage to get stung...twice. I'm pretty sure the bees just wanted to remind me who is really in charge of the hive.
And my, we're in the thick of things around here! Oh yes, the very thick of sticky, gooey goodness straight from our maple trees. For me, nothing announces the start of spring and the new growing season more than the arrival of maple syrup days. We've been busy beavers, boiling down sap as quick as we can for over a week, and intensely boiling over this holiday weekend. Sap will spoil in the warm air if it isn't boiled down fast enough, so the Artist kept the fires burning through the night Saturday, in an effort to keep up with our stores. We have more syrup this year than we have ever harvested and we're feeling quite blessed with this year's crop, and we're still boiling! We're hoping this will be an auspicious start to the 2013 farming season.
For now, I dream of homemade granola sweetened with maple syrup, the Male Twin dreams of maple glazed ribs while the Artist and the Girl Twin dream of pancakes drenched in syrup; all for the price of some hard work and patience and perhaps a small smile and a quick nod from Mother Nature.

Yum! Looks delicious. :)
That syrup looks great and I am sure will be tasty!
Sounds like it is a great harvest- although lots of work. Our oldest son is looking for a pair of goats for a new 4-H club this year. Do you have any contacts?

You now have me drooling over maple syrup and breakfast foods... ;-)
Looks so yummy!! Enjoy! xo Heather
Lovely syrup. I just got some that my niece made and can't wait for the buttermilk pancakes. J
Alas, we lost a hive to mice this year, despite the mouse guard at the entrance. Such important, hard-working and fragile creatures bees are. Sounds like life is sweet where you are...love the photos!
My brother just made syrup this year.........just so delicious.............Thank you for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this week; I hope you’ll join us again!
