Preparing

If we're not careful, the warmth of the sun can make fools of us all. Leading us to believe that it will stay forever. There are signs, however, that snap their fingers and wake us from our dream and remind us that old man winter will one day arrive. Ready or not

So we continue to enjoy a show by the pond, the best drive in theatre for miles.

And we continue to put up what we can while the garden bounty is available for the offering.

And as we watch the fading glory of summer flowers, we also dream of cozy nights spent by the fire, with a book or a skein not too far away, after, hopefully, all that wood has been stacked.

Yes, best to awaken from our reverie indeed and be prepared. Try as hard as one might, there is no hiding from winter.

Will you be ready?

Fabulous photos . . .

I'm working at it . . . finished the second garden bed yesterday. Two down . . . many more to go . . . enjoyable to work in temperatures that aren't 90-100!

Ready? Kicking and screaming perhaps as I'm dragging towards winter! I can't believe how early the sun is going down already... enjoy it while you can!

PS what a fabulous crop of tomatoes! Mine are looking a bit lackluster this year... perhaps from a bit of neglect :/

It was so chilly this morning that the kids wore jackets to school. I love it...fall is my favorite time of year, and it's been such a hot summer filled with drought. And being the obsessive list-maker that I am, I've just started my fall/winter to-do list...thanks for sending a wake-up call! -Mary

I am ready. Winter means a brief respite from a bounty of activities both farm and kid related.
