While almost all of the late flowering perennials have faded to grey around the old farmhouse, the Rose of Sharon is still going strong. There are enough buds to see us through to December, if mother nature would be kind enough to oblige. The pink blossoms are the last to put on a display this year and I think these three bumblebees were tickled pink. They reminded me of three drunken sailors out on the town. I poked and prodded and repeatedly stuck my nose and camera in their faces but they paid me no attention.

Rub a dub dub,
Three men in a tub,
And who do you think they be?
The butcher, the baker,
The candlestick maker.
Turn them out, knaves all three.

And who do you think they be?
The butcher, the baker,
The candlestick maker.
Turn them out, knaves all three.

Oh my! I'm so jealous of this stunning Rose Of Sharon. It's been too cold on our prairie for any more flowers! Stunning photo.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture of color in this photo. All of my flowers are gone, but a few tomatoes are holding their own.

ReplyDeleteReally nice capture - you did well to catch 3 'sailors' altogether. Love how you've brought it in close and the 'path' lead your eye from one flower and its bee to the next. I always find it fun visiting your blog.
ReplyDelete"the bumblebees were tickled pink" - love it. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have camellias already blooming here. It's so nice to have flowers in Fall/Winter.
One of the wonderful things about photographing flowers is that they do not ever seem to mind being photographed, and they always seem to be most cooperative! :-) This is a really beautiful photograph Andrea, and I thank you so much for sharing it today at The Creative Exchange.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful evening!
