I'm totally enamoured with my Russian Sage, particularly with how much it grew this year.
Seems I'm not the only one. It served as a multi-variety bee mecca this summer.
There's been just as much activity in the gardens this past week,
most unusual and highly suspect for the first week of October.
These heirloom cherry tomatoes did their best to take over the garden,
with the onions being the largest casualty. While popping one of these into your mouth
is like a dollop of sunshine sliding straight to your heart, I would have preferred if
they had been more prolific when I had actually planted them.
Last year.
Since when did tomato plants re-seed themselves?
Um, since Andrea decided to try growing Spanish onions?
Meanwhile, our front porch urns, have decided to put on their best display of the season, right now.
It may or may not having anything to do with the fact that there are two pots of mums waiting to replace the annuals that have usually seen better days by this time of year.
Flowers feeling threatened? Who would have guessed?
And while some threats may be idle rumours, the threat of frost is looming over my shoulder like my grade twelve English teacher during an exam. I would be remiss if I didn't try to save some of that delectable scent of the Russian Sage before Jack Frost steals it all for himself.
Guard cat is optional.

Visiting from Katherine's place. Your photos are enchanting. Love your blog, too.
ReplyDeleteoh I had so many tomatoes sprout up this year that I did not plant either!!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful captures. It seems I feel all panicky before the first heavy frost. Your guard cat should warn of frost as well:D
ReplyDeleteI too like my Russian Sage which seems to be holding on and a beautiful blend of purple color with the orange and golds of autumn. We are experiencing a glorious Indian Summer on the Western shores of Lake Michigan. Warm daytime temperatures near eighty and cool camp fire evenings in the forties. I love fall . . .
ReplyDeleteI love the second to last one best, such gorgeous colours :)
ReplyDeleteLovely and descriptive photos..love 'em! Thanks for posting them! Hugs, GraceinAZ
ReplyDeleteLove your guard cat!

ReplyDeleteBlog hopping from Katherine's Corner
Your Russian sage looks beautiful, reminds me of lavender. Our cherry tomatoes try to over take our garden also, rambling and reseeding everywhere.
ReplyDeletestopping by from katherine's Corner. Love your writing. I'm a new follower. Pop by my blog for a little puddin n pie.

Lovely shots - I am feeling the same way - our flowers are still blooming in October and they really should not be!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI think that bee went straight to your garden after it left mine! I have a pic of exactly the same kind of bee buzzing in my garden in a few earlier posts. You're very lucky to have gotten tomatoes this year...our plants are huge but the only plant that produced anything was the one cherry tomato and even then it didn't do much. Like you I had some tomato plants come on their own. I had thrown a bunch of them to the chickens late last fall and I guess some of the seeds took root. Enjoy your Russian Sage this winter!
Maura :) ps...beautiful photo's
Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteRegards and best wishes
Oooh! I want some Russian sage! Your garden looks beautiful. I can relate to your fear of frost. It's so sad when everything in my garden turns brown.
ReplyDeleteI have russian sage in my back yard, but I didn't know what it was! thanks for linking up.
