The company I work for calls this time of year, 'Fall Rush' as we try to sell our products and services to new and returning university students, and while I'm not directly involved I certainly feel their pain. Life has been hectic here, around the old farmhouse, and I've declared this month as our own fall rush.
The push is on to complete outdoor chores before the cold weather slaps us in the face with the perpetual reminder that Mother Nature won't tolerate being tamed. No way, now how. So we're busy preparing hives for winter, stacking wood, finishing the coop (the COOP!), enjoying the final days of summer blooms, stacking wood, trying to can or freeze this year's garden successes (if you don't count weeds a success) and yes, stacking more wood. I'm sorely regretting pushing for that extra cord.

It's sure alot of work, but it beats the heck out of a commute into a city office, doesn't it?
We're in full on fall rush here too! My kitchen has looked like a canning photo shoot gone awry for the last few weeks... and with all my tomatoes, pears, carrots and corn still growing/ripening it won't be changing in the near future.
My husband is outside from dawn to dusk (when he's not at his actual job) trying to get all of his "outside" projects done before our weather turns wet... then supposedly it's time for long awaited indoor projects!

Love the picture! Here in the deep south, there is no fall rush, since it hardly ever gets cold! Loved reading though, how you prepare for the coming winter months. Blessings to you.

We have also been preparing for winter, but ours won't come as early as yours.
I kind of like the "Fall Rush". The hard work, projects completed, "putting up" the vegetables and fruits . . . All in getting ready for the winter "time of nesting."
I hope you are finding some rest in between the work times.

As the farm folk I grew up around would say 'Make hay while the sun shines.' Winter will be here soon and then you can sit back in front of that crackling fire, eating the fruits of your labors!

I thought about you as I stacked last year's leftover wood last week. Yes, it shall be stacked here this year. Yay! No more stumbling over a snow-ice covered pile of wood! One thing's for sure.. it's a busy busy time. And, I must know more of this Coop thing :D -Tammy
I feel it coming...cooler weather; YAY! It's supposed to be in the 30's here tonight, and I really think I'd best get a move on with winter preparations! And that beehive...that's my latest "must have"...tell us more! Can't wait to hear about the coop (as I watch the eggs pile up in the fridge!) -Mary
we are doing the same here. Feels like the paintbrush has been surgically attached to my hand! Love watching your homestead unfold. : -) We harvested 85lbs of honey a month ago - looks like we'll get that much again in Oct.
