Just a hop and a skip from the old farmhouse sits a beautiful old barn, wonderfully maintained with beautiful details and really quite large for the area. It's a barn with enough stand alone charm to make it more than newsworthy but what makes this barn unique is the role it plays in its farmstead setting.
It wasn't long after moving to the old farmhouse that I stumbled upon this local spot. It's hard not to notice a road that winds and bends and then darts between two large trees, with a beautiful barn situated on one side of the road....
keeping watch of its farmhouse situated on the other side of the road.
I've learned from local talk that this road, at one time was just a lane to the farmhouse but as frequent use continued, it eventually became a full fledged roadway. When I first heard this, I envisioned friends and family coming to visit after church on a warm Sunday afternoon and after perhaps a lengthy visit, and a long ride home by wagon, a shortcut was in order to make up time.
And that my friends is how a road is created.
