This week's theme at Kim Klassen Cafe is to create a photo based on a movie. The Artist and I are movie buffs and came up with lots of ideas but this is what I decided to go with, maybe a little over the top but hey, you only live once.
And a little story of late about Miss Whiskers. Since moving to the old farmhouse, she's become what you might call a fair weather country girl. She's one hundred percent country in the summer but come winter she reverts back to her former city self, pretending that the world outside our door does not exist.
This time of year sees her heading outdoors before anyone has a chance to even think about offering her breakfast. And that's saying a lot about how much this little feline likes to be outside. Some days, she may decide to come in for brunch and some days she may not, but you can always find her at dusk, on the front porch, waiting to call it a day.
Last weekend, after being out for dinner, we arrived home later than her usual 'inside' time but we weren't overly concerned. If she wasn't waiting for us, she wouldn't be far off. We called her intermittently for the next half hour or so but no arrivals were announced. Figuring she found herself a spot for the night, we set off for bed. I tossed and turned and turned and tossed; by 4am we outside calling for her again. Nothing. 6am still nothing. I left for work at 7am with one absentee cat. The Artist walked the property every hour after that until 11am when he heard a faint meow. He called again, no answer. He looked right, he looked left. No cat. He called again. He heard another meow. He looked up. Way up. And there she was up, up, and away in one of the maple trees. Stuck like the proverbial cat waiting for a firefighter. He needed a ladder to get her down, balancing precariously as she tried to cling onto the tree for dear life. She made no attempts to venture outside after that for a good three days and she's been spending her nights pretty close to me and I'm fairly certain she's been whispering into my ear while I sleep. I have no other explanation for why, as I wake each morning, I have this strange urge to say to her, "tell me about the squirrels, Whiskers?"

i'm very glad she was rescued and is fine! :)
ReplyDeleteCats and trees. How do they get themselves in such a predicament and then make it so hard to rescue them?! Glad she is sticking close to home now. :-)
ReplyDeleteDon't think she will be doing that again in a hurry! Good your husband managed to rescue her... and what a lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteA pretty photo and oh-so funny movie idea! I've had sleepless nights too wondering if they're okay when cats don't wander home as usual. My favorite outdoor tom was gone several weeks and I began to think the worst. However; one morning recently he was found lounging about as if nothing had changed. A little kitty vacation, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteOh that is a great story I am so glad you found her. Nice photo. B
ReplyDeleteOh, my! Whiskers is kin to our two new ones. Yes, the kittens are gone but, 2 more showed up. In our huge Box Elder on a Sunday night. Wailing! J and the Artist have both become feline heros!!!
ReplyDeleteI bet the squirrels laughed their bums off at Whiskers!
"Hey Fred, another one can't get down!" Stupid Cats!

ReplyDeleteHave I asked you have you seen the Simon's Cat videos? If not google and watch. There are at least three of them that fit my cats so well....they are cartoons.
Just stopping by and checking out the different blogs out there. Richard from Amish Stories.
ReplyDeleteMiss Whiskers is gorgeous! So glad she made it down from the tree without any serious injury to her or her rescuer! The tend to freak out when trying to pry them from high up places. I usually end up with many scratches on arms, neck and face.
ReplyDeleteGreat movie title also.
