Got Milk?

I dream of having a cow. I have my doubts as to whether or not we actually have enough room for one but I continue to dream anyways. I stopped to introduce myself to this overwhelmingly large herd one evening and we chit chatted for a little while. First I asked them point blank, "Have you ever wanted anything so bad you could taste it?" They stared at me in disbelief and then started to back up a few steps.
I quickly realized I had been misunderstood and as I tried to find the right words to set their hooves at ease I had the strange sensation that I was being watched, in a menacing, stalker-ish sort of way and as I glanced to my left, I discovered I was being watched in a menacing, stalker-ish sort of way. Egad! I nervously chuckled and made what I thought was a compliment of sorts about the lovely set of bangs he was sporting but he wasn't falling for any of that. In fact, I don't believe he fluttered a single eyelash. "For the love of Pete",  I cried, "I want milk, cheese, butter and cream!" Then I crossed my fingers as I held my hand behind my back and I told them all I was a vegetarian.
And she seemed to believe me. It's always nice to have at least someone, anyone, in your corner. Thinking that things were finally getting back on track, I asked, "So who wants to come home with me?" With the exception of the sound of chewing and tails swishing we were surrounded by the silence of our thoughts. Then I realized my faux pas. I had been far too hasty in my offer. "Wait!" I cried. "Whose got milk?"

Then I panned to my right and saw that black and white dude. Yep, the one wearing a goalie mask. And I realized there was nothing I could say to turn things around and I high tailed it back to the car.

Here's hoping that word doesn't spread around the farms in these parts about the crazy former city lady looking for a dairy cow. I could be in a lot of trouble.

    I have to admit, I've never thought of wanting a cow...but they ARE sort of cute. Well, with the exception of the scary hockey mask wearing kind.

    Really cute! Is there a lot of work that goes into keeping a dairy cow?

    Have you ever thought of getting a dairy goat? Thier milk is fantastic, much better for us than cows milk, and they`re SO much easier to handle and cost much less to feed. Love the images, cows are just too darn cute!

    You had me with 'the nice bangs'...ha! I'm with everyone else, I think a goat is in your future...I dream of one too for my soaps. Can you make a goat look like a Brown Swiss???

    Those cows will be beef but I love the captures you got of them. I am not ambitious enough for a dairy cow like you are dreaming. I know many dairy farmers and know they can provide me with the milk on my grocery shelf with a lot more ease than me milking!

    I think sometimes when people type lol they weren't truly laughing out loud. I can tell you I laughed out loud a lot when I read this post! These cow photos are gorgeous. I love the way you got them to look at you. And thanks for the chuckles.

    I want a moo-moo too, Andrea. There's a terrific, miniature breed called 'Dexter' - they grow to only about a metre tall - perfect for small spaces that may need their lawn mowing. There's a website in Australia: wwww. dexter.com.au

    Oh, my this post was really funny :):) Those are some great photos and some good looking cows ;) :) My dad makes Bible covers out of real leather cow-hide, so I' m not sure how well those cows wo u ld have reacted if my dad ha d been there :) :) Th at one black cow did look kinda mean...the one that was sporting the bangs :) :) Well, as long as you don't rustle som eone else's cow you should be okay :):) Keep us updated on your dairy cow adventures :) :) Have a great weekend.     I love it! The photos area great and I so enjoyed reading this too. I grew up on a farm, and for some reason, I like cows a lot more now than I did as a kid. :)

    We have some cows on our farmette and I admit that I like having them around. They munch, crunch, and make great scenery.

    That black one is a bit on the scary side! Personally, cows kind of scare me... they seem to be much bigger than the cows my grandparents had when I was a kid... and they are waaaay more agile than you'd think. Our neighbor is keeping a herd of about 50 for someone... well last Sunday one somehow got over the fence, across the road and was eating my flowers... next thing another was out. By the time we got outside the others were lined up at the fence just waiting to follow! It was quite funny to try and catch the two loose ones and get them back where they belonged!

    So watch out when you bring "bessie" home for a bit of milk... they may seem slow and plodding but I think it's all an act ;)

    Very cute. First you need to look at DAIRY cows, not beef. Secondly, I agree, get a goat first. You will know after awhile if you truely want to be "married" to a cow...:).

    HILARIOUS! I have no fear when it comes to my uncle's herd of dairy cows, but put me near steers, and my knees turn to jello! Why is it those two black ones have expressions just look menacing?

    uhmmm. Those are beef cattle, so Im pretty sure thats why they didnt want to go home with you. Not only are they the toughest mammas' around, but they certainly arent going to share their milk with you when they have younguns' to raise.

    Theyre fussy like that...

    Andrea I am totally with you. I definitely want a cow or two...or three or four..... Thanks for your wonderful comment on my "weekend post". Can't wait for our trip to Kristen and Mark Kimball's farm and YES I will absolutely take photos. I'm hoping to convince the hubby that the direction they have taken is the direction we should be heading in. Wish me luck!!!! :-)

    Love your photos, but I've seen a few too many beef cows of all breeds and sizes this weekend ;)And you know I love cows. Just returned a few hours ago from a weekend at W.Ontario Beef Invitational with our two boys. Lots and lots of beef, all prettied up for the show ring. Our 14 year old won 3rd in Showmanship, 1st in his heat and Grand Champion in breeding calf. I thought I would check on my blog favs while the barn clothes are in the wash only to find your lovely photos.
