Lunchbreak

There's nothing better than breaking up a long day spent at a desk than a brisk walk in the country to replenish the mind and soul. It's sort of tricky when you work in the city though.
Luckily for me, I recently discovered a little country oasis tucked in behind my office. It's situated along a major river that has been bypassed for development because of limited access.
It's a treasure trove of flora, rustic homes and wildlife.
It's a wonderful opportunity to recharge my batteries for the afternoon while soothing my barnheart.
But what really causes me to do a double take is this.
My first reaction, as I glanced towards the house, was they must be expats living in the Canadian suburban countryside. Then I came to my senses and realized this is how they must be getting their mail while Canada Post is on strike. Why didn't I think of that?

Please, could someone south of the border send me one of these?

I'd be much obliged.

I'm joining:

So funny, I had to read the last one at least two times, I didn't see anything wrong with that mail box, except it's green. Then it dawned on me, not everyone lives in the US. LOL

Hello Andrea!
What a wonderful post and I LOVE your photo's especially the one with the clematis...beautiful texture. Don't you just love mailboxes..we just found an old beat up mailbox in a little addition off our old garage...wish we lived closer! What a wonderful place to take a walk...such a nice surprise. Enjoy your walks and I look forward to seeing more beautiful photo's.

I wonder how long the strike will last? We had to take Canada off our selling list on e-bay for a while...so do people have two separate mailboxes there?

What a treat to find that hidden spot for a lunchtime break. It'll clear your head and you may just discover something wonderful! I remember working in a big city and taking a breather in the parking lot one day. While clearing my head, I discovered a single volunteer flower growing in a crack in the concrete...I knew it was time to get away. Goodbye city life!

love the daytime retreat you have discovered! the US mail made me laugh. well, Canadian mail service might be on strike, but US mail service is teetering on insolvency, so take your pick... :)

Hi Andrea,

Lovely photos, the clematis is just gorgeous with the texture...

No sign of our mail carrier here either, oh well...they have to come back eventually.

All the Best,
Christine

I'm wondering if you live near the US border? I do and on one of my cross-border shopping trips I bought a mailbox at Walmart because it was $6.00 compared to one I saw at Canadian Tire here in Canada for $25.00. Maybe that mailbox owner is a bargain hunter like me...?

Andrea, hi. If you have all this near your office, it'd be like walking through the wardrobe into Narnia! How wonderful that pockets like this continue at their own pace, in their own slow way. What a lovely term 'barnheart' is.

I'll be happy to send you one! I guess it will have to be fedex or ups for shipping ;)

And I do love the clematis growing up around fences and mail boxes...

Ha Ha,Tammy from Flat Creek Farm-- that donkey courier express would be faster than our Canada Post during this strike. Lovely photos and great that you get a break from the city desk. I love my drive home because I hit farmland (for the time being anyway!) half way home.
