Tea Rose

This china cup belonged to my grandmother, who recently passed away. This was her china pattern, that her mother started her on when she was but a young lass. The pattern is Tea Rose by Royal Albert, and it was such an icon throughout her life as no birthday, anniversary or special occasion passed without someone buying her yellow roses. The majority of the set is packed away, waiting for the right moment when a new home will be obvious, maybe to a future great-granddaughter or great-great granddaughter. Whoever it may be, it will remain in the family, but for now each of the women currently in our family has a piece in their home, a subtle but lovely reminder of our mom and grandmother, whom we miss dearly.

How fitting then, as Mother's day approaches, that the theme for this week's texture link up is to use a photo of coffee or tea cup along with any of Kim's textures. This time around I used her Love texture set to colour burn @75% and Luminous, with a soft light setting @ 83%. Love because my grandmother taught us so much about love and how to give it graciously and freely; Luminous because she still continues to light up our hearts each day.

I recently finished an audio version of Michael Caine's second autobiography, Elephant to Hollywood, which I thoroughly enjoyed. He's very down to earth and hasn't forgotten his roots and it was read by him. I  really prefer audio books that are read by the author. So when we came upon the film Secondhand Lions on Netflix this weekend, we decided to give it a try. It's about a boy dealing with a mother who is too preoccupied to be the mother he needs but in return he develops a relationship with his two great uncles. We enjoyed the story and it was a great family movie; have you seen it?
