Portuguese Honey

During my recent time of idleness,

or more affectionately known as my battle of the flu,

I found this gem, hidden in my pantry for a rainy day.

Well, a rainy day had arrived and I cracked this baby open.

Pure Portuguese eucalyptus honey.
A special treat my mom picked up for me

during her last trip to Portugal.

She's always been good at picking things out for me.

I would have never thought to bring some of this goodness home for myself

but from now on whenever I travel, I'll be bringing home a little honey.

Honey, it seems has a lot of medicinal qualities,

and has been used for thousands of years.

The use of honey for this purpose is known as apitherapy,

a subject I plan on researching in the future.

In the meantime, I've been having a spoonful each day,

straight up, and I do believe it does a body good.

A spoonful of honey, keeps that nagging cough at bay!

 ~Honey...have some today!~

Honey definitely helps! I used to get bad coughing fits in the middle of the night when I was a teenager and cough until I couldn't breathe - the only thing that soothed the cough was a spoonful of honey and back to sleep I'd go. It sure scared my mom though.

Oh, I forgot to ask. Does the Portuguese honey have a strong flavour? I've only had regular honey and didn't know you can get different flavours.

I do know that honey has antibacterial qualities. How nice for your friend to get this for you. And I love the jar that it's in. :)

I heard somewhere that honey is the only food that never spoils. Happy eating!

I go to local farmers' markets and buy local honey here - because it is made from flowers and blooms in the area, it is supposed to help build up a tolerance against allergies. Besides, on French Bread smeared with peanut butter, honey can't be beat!

I'm glad your Portuguese honey helped Andrea! My personal local favorite is blackberry honey. And yes, it does taste ever so slightly of blackberries.

Of course now I wish I'd brought back some Mississauga honey... or Niagara honey... of Niagara on the Lake honey.... ;)

That honey sure does sound exotic and good :). I purchased one from the farmer's market a couple weeks ago called fireweed--raw, unfiltered and pure heaven!

What a lovely thing for your mom to bring to you and you re-found it at the perfect time! I've been trying to remember to take a teaspoon a day myself. It's supposed to help with allergies too.

Texwisgirl is right on! Besides enjoying exoctic honey, taking a tablespoon of local honey 2-3 times a day is wonderful for seasonal allergies! We buy some each year at the Autumn Fest. It works for us :)
And before I come visit you, I will need some of your *homegrown*honey to fend off those Canadian allergies I may aquire while living in your guestroom :)
