What's a rural family to do, when they're tired of gardening, painting, canning and general farmhouse maintenance and it's one of the last warm summer days to be had?
The last few years have been cool and wet in our neck of the woods, making a trip to the beach a futile exercise, which in turn made us all the more appreciative of this visit.
We headed to our favourite provincial park, Long Point. Where the beaches are wide and the dunes are high.
If you've ever stood on the shores of Lake Erie, at Erie, Pennsylvania and looked across the expanse of water before you, this is what is hidden, just out of sight, on the other side.
There are few more simple joys in life than frolicking in the waves with your child and listening to the sounds of delight in his laugh.
And lying on the beach with your eyes closed letting the sound of the waves soothe your soul.
Growing up near the Great Lakes has always felt like a blessing to me. Where else can you have your choice of three beautiful lakes, all within a few hours drive? Not to mention Georgian Bay, which, itself, is majestic and breathtaking. My mind and body are long overdue for a visit there but I'm not complaining, this little oasis was just what the doctor ordered.
Not long after we arrived and crashed our bodies into the welcoming surf a few times, the male twin shouted out, to what seemed like the world in general, "It doesn't get any better than this!"
I couldn't agree more.

Breath taking photos! So sweet!
Beautiful! I yelled hello from the shore of Lake Erie on our side as we drove home from the Adirondacks.. Did you hear me??? Just kidding.. So nice to see what was on the other side of that beautiful lake. Love the last shot of the cottage on the shore. Looks like you had a wonderful time!
Living near water is such a foreign concept to this Arizona girl but I think you are right...soothing to the soul. I spent two weeks in Hawaii and I never felt more calm, peaceful and healthy. When I came back home I wanted to sell everything and move there!...maybe time to go back for a week or two...Can you imagine the what joy your son must have been feeling when he shouted "This is as good as it gets"!...makes it all worth while...
Coming from the Pacific side of the US, it always amazes me to see pictures on any of the Great Lakes... it's unbelievable to me to see a lake that looks like our oceans!
I absolutely ADORE the last picture! The colors of the water and grasses along with the little blue building are fantastic.

So gorgeous!
It must be so gratifying to know that he is appreciating your vacay as much as you are.
Ah! I just love him! I can hear his joyful declaration in my head.
The beach is always fun, but at this time of the year so much more peaceful. We haven't been to Long Point, but spend lots of time at beaches on Georgian Bay.
Wasn't the weather today absolutely perfect? The sun was shining and although it was warm it was tolerable, nothing like the intense heat we've had this summer. What a great way to spend the day! Looks like you had the place to yourselves. Beautiful pictures.

Hello Andrea!
What a beautiful lake! I didn't realize the water was that pretty in the big lakes up there...I guess I'm getting too used to the color of the water here in Kansas. I'm happy for you ...it sounds like you had a wonderful time and it sounds like you're not the only one who enjoyed themselves. Have a wonderful week...Maura :)
What a beautiful spot!
I do know! Growing up on Lake Erie in northern Ohio, being on the water all the time was part of being a kid there!
Your pics are glorious :) I could feel the warm sand on my toes!
And just think...all those years as kids we waved at one another across that big "ocean" and never met until we blogged!
xo, misha
Always so nice to have a little getaway...much deserved after the work of summer gardens, canning, and oh, the heat. Good for you!
Ahhh, the beach. He is so right, it just doesn't get any better!
Beautiful photos!! I so love the beach. I could stay all day, forever and ever!
I grew up in North East, PA, which is about 20 minutes from Erie. It was always a thrill to be able to brag 'I can see Canada.' How funny that you would mention Erie. Small world!
WOW. As usual your pics take my breath away! Thanks for sharing. Happy Fall!
hugs,
Leslie
