I've been hinting lately about my plans to start my first livestock venture this spring.
It's not a secret or anything, I've just been too busy to get into details about it.
I am pretty excited about getting this show on the road, even if I am extremely clueless about the whole thing. Don't worry, I'm used to it.
Cluelessness, that is.
And apparently, that's not even a word but it is so me.
Some days.
Long before I met the Artist, I dreamed of raising chickens, and I still do.
But that's not it. I seriously lack the amenities for having my own girls and a guy, right now.
Oh, yes, I seriously want a rooster too. If I have to be up so dang early every morning, everyone else might as well be too. Just kidding, sort of; I do love the sound of a rooster in the morning.
And it's entirely possible that I may change my mind about that.
That's me with some of my other girls, well, alright, a girl can dream can't she?
Talkin' about dreams, the twins would really like their own horse but we're not ready for that just quite yet either.
I had a moment of clarity and since that doesn't come along very often, I struck up some determination and decided my first venture would be...
beekeeping.
Thankfully, bears are a bonafide rarity in my neck of the woods.
I really hope I never change my mind about that.
So, I'm dreaming of honey; I swear I'm actually starting to resemble Pooh Bear too. Christmas was a little too good to me.
I'm dreaming of beeswax candles, and soap and maybe, just maybe, watermelon will grow in the garden this year.
I also have nightmares.
They go something like this...
I suppose if they swarmed enough, I would no longer resemble the bear who lives under the name Sanders.

Should have gotten a clue from your new sidebar wallpaper! I'll look forward to reading about your new adventure. I bought my own bee hive, but had to put it on hold since the cottage is for sale. The first season I can, I'm getting bees!!
Oh boy I sure can send you roosters. I have like 5 extras right now. AS for the bees, I've never had any and know nothing about keeping bees. Good luck with that adventure.
What a delightful post, Andrea! I had the joy of helping a friend with her bees one day. I ran the bee smoker to coax them out of the ummm.. hives... boxes? whatever they're called! It wasn't as scary as I thought it might be (even though my beekeeper's veil had a few holes). I can't wait to read of your adventures in beekeeping! Enjoy the weekend! -Tammy
I'm with Tammy... can't wait to read of your bee adventures! I've read several articles on beekeeping, and it sounds so intriguing. But this spring our big project will be getting a garden started. First and foremost, since we didn't get it done last year. Then maybe in 2011 I can entertain chickens... or bees. :-)
We are in our second year of raising chickens and having so much fun. I have heard stories of mean roosters, not here!
From day one we would pick every chick up and coddle them. They have been wonderful, and quite entertaining. So much fun to see them run to greet you when they hear your vehicle pull in. Sad part is Mr. Fox has found them to be a tasty treat. We've lost a few. Our next venture will be a donkey and a cow. Look forward to future posts as your dreams come true. I'm intriqued with the bee venture.
I agree...I'd love bees too! I've always been intrigued by them and friends say they're really not too much work. Personally, as much milk as we drink, I'd be willing to take on milking a cow too...ahhh, life in the country!
I would love to raise chickens. Something tells me my neighbors would oppose:)

I can't wait to hear all about the bees! I've always been interested in beekeeping. I think it's fascinating. Hopefully, one day, I'll have a place to keep a few little chickens.
