Back in the Kitchen with the Artist

Have I mentioned how nice it is to have the 'Arteest' back in the kitchen again? Hhmm, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! I'd like to share one of his favourite desserts with you. At least, I think it's his favourite because he sure makes it a lot. It could just be because it's real simple to make.

You start with apples. Thanks to the vast amount of apple farms in the area, "We've got apples, we're gonna eat apple sauce, apple cider and apple pie, and there's stewed apples and baked apples and dried apples, and apple butter; heck no, we're not gonna starve".  Name that movie.

Shall we begin? Slice the apples in half and place cut side up in a shallow baking pan and place a dab of butter in the hollow. Like this, but it may not have the same effect if you use a pan that's not quite as grungy as this one. It's a sign of baked on goodness. Really.

Then sprinkle on some cinnamon sugar like so...

And some of this tasty stuff we all have on hand for eggnog this time of year...

Next, add some lemon juice. I know, I know, unless you live in Florida or Portugal, there is heavy duty mileage on a lemon, whether it's real or from a little plastic bottle but there are certain things one can just not live without, besides have you ever heard of scurvy?

Then sprinkle some Brown Sugar on top. I can hear the glimmer twins singing now....

This is my Brown Sugar ami. Oui, oui, he's cute, he's my good luck charm dans la cuisine et he's francais, n'est pas? What more could a girl ask for?

Okay, now we're at the point where I must confess, this dessert does nothing for me. As far as I'm concerned, if there's no chocolate involved, it's not really dessert. Not officially, anyways. Of course, if I was really desperate, I mean really desperate, my arm might be twisted, but this next step is a deal breaker pour moi. He adds currants or raisins, whatever he can find in the cupboard and sprinkles a few on top.

If I'm not sure of anything else in life, I know my mom is still reading on, wishing she had one of these to go with her morning coffee. She and the Artist have similar taste buds. Really, I think we might have been switched at birth. Well, okay, maybe not but somewhere along the line, the gene pool got jiggled around. That's all.

Now, where was I? Oh yes, next he adds a splash and a dash of water to the bottom of the pan. So that  the baked on goodness from the pan will transfer to the apple skins and make them ooey gooey good.

Then he places them in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 20-30 minutes....

...and before you can say Bob's your uncle, Voila! One of the many, many ways to eat apples. Did you guess the movie yet? I'll give you a hint.....it's a Christmas movie.

Of course, while the Artist delved with glee into his baked apple treat, this is what I had for dessert. Did I mention I love chocolate?

Heavenly Hash ice cream. Many a time my grandpa would take us for ice cream at the Pinto Variety on Wellington in my hometown. Then we'd go for a drive, six of us in his big Chevy Suburban. I've had a thing for Heavenly Hash and 1980 Suburbans ever since.

Snow watch update...I am still expecting to wake up to our first snow fall Wednesday morning. I will keep you posted. No pun intended. Maybe.

Be well friends!

My husband would love this! I MIGHT make it for him...although I'd much rather have Heavenly Hash. :o)

What you didn't have a baked apple! Hmmm, as much as I love chocolate ice cream I might have made the same choice to be perfectly honest.

How about asking the arteest to substitute chocolate chips for raisins in your apple? Much healthier than ice cream!

The apples look delicious to me but like you, I'm a chocolate lover. Could you drizzle chocolate over the apples or would that mess up their taste? Wish I were there to taste them.

I'd go for the apple. I am not an ice cream girl! Weird, huh!
