My parents have been in Portugal for the last five weeks and there have been many times when I wanted to pick up the phone and call my mom or send her an email during the day, only to remind myself that it will have to wait. Luckily, they are to return home tonight and while I am glad they had the opportunity to get away and to be somewhere they really ought to be; I know my world will regain a natural sense of order when they are home.
Last year, my son and I had the opportunity to join them in Portugal, two weeks before we were due to move into the old farmhouse. As I drifted off to sleep each night, I found myself dreaming of the new country life waiting for me, but during the day, I found myself falling in love with another country. I was whisked around the countryside to different towns, visiting a thousand year old castle, driving up the coast to a town beautifully decorated for it's summer festival, and visiting many, many beautiful churches. Oh and last but not least, the food. Oh yes, this was an area where I had absolutely no expectations and I was more than delightfully surprised. The food was amazing. Out. Of. This. World. Do you love seafood? If the answer is yes, then the coast of Portugal is where you need to be. Trust me. Fish, shrimp, mussels, ray, sardines, and more fish and some chips thrown in too. And none of it was anything like you can find at home, well not my home anyways. Speaking of home, I can only dream of being able to grow lemons, pears and figs, larger than any you have ever seen, around the old farmhouse.
So in celebration of my parent's return. Here are a few of my favourite photos from my 'other' country.

How cool is that! Do your parents go to Portugal every year?
Debbie, Yes, they go every year, sometimes twice!
What a beautiful country! The little kitty is adorable. The art looks amazing. and is that a church? Beautiful.

It sounds absolutely wonderful - I had no idea it offered all that. It's nice your parents could spend so much time there again this year.
Beautiful! I was there about 45 years ago and I loved it. I would love to be able to visit again some day. Thanks for sharing the photos and I'm glad your parents will be home again.
